However, Hitler did not drink
Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels is credited with building public support for the Holocaust and the war Hitler is about to launch. I had the opportunity to sit down and watch “Führer und Verführer” (also known as “Führer and Seducer”), and writer and director Joachim Lang didn’t need to convince me to watch this film. If you’re interested in even a modicum of historical interest, then this is a film you’ll want to see.
And it’s a pretty memorable and impressive look
Of course, most of us are familiar with the basic events of World War II and the aftermath of the war, but writer and director Joachim Lang offers some insight into the machinery behind the man responsible. While the events and characters portrayed in the film are indeed cruel and vile, it is a crucial part of world history and therefore something we cannot and should not ignore. And because of that alone, “Führer und Verführer” is a film that is definitely worth watching. I have to say that I was genuinely entertained throughout the 135 minutes that the film ran.
Partly because of the story, but certainly because of some commanding and impressive performances by the cast
Lead actors Robert Stadlober and Fritz Karl, who play Joseph Goebbels and Adolf Hitler respectively, may play some of the most infamous figures in world history, but they do so in very convincing and impressive, I would say very realistic, ways. They really carry the film very well with their performances and I sincerely hope they get some recognition for their performances in this film. While Fritz Karl portrays Hitler disturbingly well, it just wasn’t as impressive as Bruno Ganz’s 2004 film Der Untergang. Regardless, the entire cast of this 2024 film gave great performances that definitely brought not only the story on screen to life, but certainly the characters they portray as well.
So this is definitely a film I recommend you sit down and watch
It’s a film that may not be suitable for all viewers as it is an emotionally powerful and moving film, and the fact that director and writer Joachim Lang included real footage from World War II makes it all the more difficult, especially since there are some very difficult scenes involved. But then again, as soon as the film ends with the statement “it happened… and therefore it can happen again.”, which rings very true, despite being a terribly scary sentence. I wasn’t prepared for the film to be as captivating and compelling as it was, but that made watching it an even more memorable experience. My rating for writer-director Joachim Lang’s 2024 film “Führer und Verführer” comes in at seven out of ten stars.
